VEX Robotics World Championship Schedule FAQs

Q: Do we need to be at the doors right when they open?

A: On Day 1, there’s no need to arrive right when the venue opens. Some teams choose to travel to the event on the morning of Day 1, and arrive at the venue mid-afternoon.

Q: Will our matches run on time?

A: Divisions often run a few minutes ahead of schedule, but will generally wait until the scheduled match start time to begin a match with a missing team. It is your team’s responsibility to be early or on time for every match. It’s a good idea for teams to proactively track down alliance partners well before the scheduled match start time.

Q: Will we have time between matches to do other things?

A: With about 11 matches spread over 1.5 days, your team will have time between matches to experience everything the VEX Robotics World Championship has to offer. You’ll want to prioritize meeting and practicing with your alliance partners, and getting in your Driving and Autonomous Coding Skills runs. You’ll have plenty of time to check out the vendors and exhibitors, and to exchange souvenirs with other teams at their pits.

Q: What is the Morning Kickoff?

A: The morning kickoff includes announcements and reminders about the day’s schedule, and happens in all Divisions. Portions are pre-recorded and aired in the Divisions. Your Division Manager may also make in-person announcements and reminders during this time.

Q: What happens during Opening Ceremonies?

A: Opening ceremonies in the Dome welcome attendees to the VEX Robotics World Championship, introduce participating regions with a Parade of Nations, recognize sponsors, and introduce winners of the Inspiration All Star Awards. It’s an exciting kickoff for the qualification matches that will begin the next day!

Q: How many teams compete in the Division Finals?

A: For V5RC, 16 two-team alliances will be formed in each division during the alliance selection process. For VIQRC, the Division Finals typically consist of the 20 top-ranking teams paired into 10 alliances.

Q: If my team doesn’t make it to the Division Finals, is there a reason to stay?

A: Most of the judged and performance awards given at the VEX Robotics World Championship are awarded at the division level during and following the division finals. If your team isn’t participating in the Division Finals, you should stay to watch from the stands or sidelines, cheer for the friends you’ve made at the event, and see if your team has been chosen for a judged award. There’s nothing sadder than learning that your team got an award and wasn’t there to receive it.

Q: How many teams compete in the Overall Finals? How do they get through the crowds and into to the Dome?

A: Each 2-team alliance that is named Champions in their Division will progress to the Dome to represent their division in the Overall Finals. Each of these alliances, along with additional members of their team and travel group, will be escorted to the Dome by event staff immediately following presentation of the final Division Awards.

Q: What happens during Closing Ceremonies?

A: Closing ceremonies in the dome feature the Overall Finals matches, which culminate in recognizing the season’s World Champions, Excellence winners, and Skills Champions! The closing ceremonies end with a dramatic reveal of the new season’s game.
